Combining innovation and sustainability: how we helped Nutreco's Skretting brand develop strategies for a more sustainable future


Nutreco, a company with a mission to feed the future, strives to make a positive impact on society while promoting sustainable practices. As part of their commitment to sustainability, their aquaculture brand Skretting sought out our assistance in finding innovative solutions to better balance their business objectives with eco-conscious practices. Our collaboration spanned three months, including three two-day bootcamps, in which we combined innovation and sustainability to develop concrete strategies for the brand.

We began our work with a value chain analysis, delving into the trends and impact knowledge that already existed within the salmon industry. Through this analysis, we identified a number of "value pockets," areas where sustainability and business results intersected. These value pockets were then validated throughout the entire chain, from consumers and supermarkets to salmon farms and ingredient suppliers. For the most valuable pockets, we conducted interviews with the stakeholders who held the most leverage, uncovering their needs and identifying potential obstacles. Using this insight, we brainstormed ideas and developed them into concepts through prototypes and impact analysis. Through this process, we were able to create tangible solutions for Skretting that balanced their business needs with environmental considerations, making strides towards a more sustainable future.


Overall, our partnership with Nutreco's Skretting brand enabled us to make significant progress towards our shared goal of sustainable, responsible business practices. Through our approach of combining innovation with a focus on sustainability, we were able to identify and develop concrete strategies that not only align with Nutreco's mission, but also create value for their business and the industry as a whole.
